Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) are critical components of any student’s education and necessary skills for the working world. In an effort to help Merrimack students develop these skills, Saint-Gobain is supporting Merrimack High School’s FIRST Robotics Team, Chop Shop 166, as they work to build robots for competition.
Established right here in New Hampshire, the FIRST Robotics program has helped countless students develop a passion for STEM for more than 30 years. By working together to design, engineer and build a robot to perform specific challenges, the FIRST program provides a fun and interactive way for high school students to learn while working together as a team. From building the necessary equipment to programming a robot to perform, move and pivot, the young men and women of Chop Shop 166 have experienced tremendous success in competition, including winning the Northern Connecticut District event in 2020 and the Governor’s Cup in 2021!
The FIRST program is not only creating a great educational experience for our students, but is also helping to create the pipeline of engineers that businesses, like Saint-Gobain, will need in the future. We look forward to continuing to support students in our community and hope they will someday be the engineers we rely on to make the world a better home!
